Bauer Media's Real Living has taken out the top honours at this year's Australian Magazine Awards.
An event held at The Sydney Cricket Ground this morning saw the home and lifestyle title take out not only the Magazine of the Year award but editor-in-chief of the title Deborah Bibby took out Editor of the Year.
Of the title the judges noted how it was recognised across several categories, “Capturing both Home & Garden and the Editor awards as well as a strong showing for the Front Cover, Real Living is competitive across the board. Combined with positive growth in both circulation and readership Real Living is the deserved winner of Magazine of the Year.”
The judges had the same praise for Bibby as editor-in-chief of the title, “This was the hardest decision of the day with so many deserved contenders but Deborah Bibby’s stamp on Real Living, its consistency and its continued success won over the judges.”
Real Living's win ends a dream run for Morrison Media's title Frankie, that took out the awards two years running however it wasn't all bad news for Frankie, with the title taking out the Women's Fashion Award, beating out Harper's Bazaar and Vogue Australia.
The 2014 Australian Magazine Awards also saw a new inductee entering the Hall of Fame. This year's inductee is none other than the editor and publisher of Marie Claire magazine, Jackie Frank.
Frank was not only the launch editor of Marie Claire in Australia she was also the first Australian publisher of the title. She has overseen the title for 19 years and told AdNews that she feels so lucky for all that Marie Claire and the industry has given her.
“The world of Marie Claire has opened up the world to me and I have developed as a person because of the brand,” she said.
“I feel so blessed, I never take it for granted and I am really grateful for the people that you meet and the issues that you get to cover.”
